Ryuk (Jason Liles and Willem Dafoe)
Ryuk the demonic Shinigami or death god was played by Jason Liles who has played several creature roles in many movies with the voice of Willem Defoe known for his sinister voice. Ryuk is the original owner of Death Note and begins communicating with Light when the book gets passed on to him. In the movie, he can be seen enjoying and observing as Light starts using the book to kill people around the world as Kira. Finally, when Mia and Light write each other’s names and get on to the Ferris wheel, he can be seen laughing out loud while bringing down the Ferris with Mia and Light still on it.
Light Turner / Kira (Nat Wolff)

L (Lakeith Stanfield)
Kira or Light’s work comes to the attention of L who is known to be one of the best detectives the world has ever known. He does not have and is highly intelligent as well. Killings and deaths throughout the world come to his table and he gets determined to capture Kira and end all the killings. He makes a statement against Kira//Light Turner He suggests investigating and track all the law enforcement personnel working for him and even their families to track down Kira.
His technique works and he tracks down Light when Detective James Turner who light’s father was sent to challenge Kira to kill him which he obviously couldn’t. He lives with Watari who is more like his foster parent and assistant. In the end, L seemed to get frustrated when he failed to recover both Light Tuner’s book or
Mia Sutton / Kira (Margaret Qualley)
Mia is Light Turner’s classmate and girlfriend who was her accomplice when he decided to do a worldwide massacre of all the criminals in the world. On their campaign to bring all the criminals to justice, she becomes blinded and starts taking down people who want to stop them. She becomes so obsessed with the book and its power that she even writes Light’s name on the book in case he refuses to hand over the book to her on the Homecoming Dance. She becomes very ambitious to retrieve the book from Light and wanted to go to any extent to become the next owner of Death Note.
Detective James Turner (Shea Whigham)
Shea Wingham plays Light Turner’s widowed father and one of the best police detectives who lost his wife in a hit and run incident and now lives as a veteran in the department with Light. He gets reinstated by L to investigate the mass killings of criminals by Kira unaware that Kira is his son and the ways he commits all the killings. Before the incident of the Ferris Wheel, Light and James have a strained relationship as Light believed that his father failed to bring Antony to justice. When Light survives the Ferris Wheel incident, both of them seem to have come to a resolution putting their bitterness and personal grudges aside.
Watari (Paul Nakauchi)
Watari is one of the founding members of the Wammy’s House and was very close to L. He was very close to L and was like his foster father and assistant. He worked as the liaison between the law enforcement agencies in Seattle and L and introduced James Turner to Watari and used to remind L that “Sleep is key to strong thought “ as he used to travel with L almost everywhere and L used candy to keep himself awake.
Before his death, he calls Light and tells him about L’s past life and knows where he could find L’s real name. He drives up to the Wammy’s House without informing L about it which amazed L. He was about to reveal L’s name to Light when he gets followed by a team of law enforcement personnel who finds them in an underground space and gets killed.
In the End…
We can conclude here by saying that Death Note was a fairly good movie to watch but still had a 4.4 rating on IMDb. This might be due to the cast and some character loopholes in the movie like Light Turner was a cute and lonely individual and he stays this way throughout with Mia being the ambitious one with a more dominating role and sinister mindset. The movie might be having a sequel coming up as L might continue his pursuit for Light and Light or Mia (if she has survived the Ferris Wheel incident) will try to find out L’s real name.
